RHR International Company is the premier firm in management psychology, having pioneered the field in the late 1930s. At that time, Chicago-based psychologist Perry Rohrer had the inspiration that adding clinical insights to the usual psychometric tests of the day would provide better predictions of behavior for the personnel evaluations he was conducting for an engineering firm. It was a unique idea for its time, and proved to be very successful. It wasn’t long before he began using this new approach in other organizational functions that entailed human behavior in business settings. Senior management teams saw the value in the new methodology and the client list demanding these services grew rapidly.
In 1945, Dr. Rohrer left the engineering firm and joined with trusted colleagues Fran Hibler, Fred Replogle, Elliott Janney, and Charles Flory to form a new company. Chicago became the home office for Drs. Rohrer, Hibler and Replogle along with a majority of the consultants hired that first year. Dr. Janney worked solo out of Detroit and Dr. Flory managed a small staff in New York City. It was decided to name the firm after the three general partners who were stationed in the company’s Chicago headquarters. In another unique decision, which sets the company apart to this day, the founders established high hiring standards from the start, with doctorates required for all consultants.
While the name of the firm has undergone several changes since 1945, and logos have come in and out of fashion, chief executives and the management teams of the finest global companies continue to value the skilled professionals of RHR International as trusted advisors and partners in success. Our consultants still have advanced degrees in North America or the equivalent practice degree in their home country, but now serve clients from 19 locations in ten countries on four continents.
