NYC Considers Legislation against Weight Discrimination
Progress has been made over the last decades to protect people from discrimination in the workplace based on sex, race, disability, and age. Now, body positivity advocates say awareness and discussion are necessary to curb fatphobia. Cristina Jimenez, global head of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging at RHR International, says hiring managers and hiring leaders have a responsibility to understand all types of bias. To reduce negative weight-related attitudes, beliefs, assumptions, and judgments toward individuals who are overweight and obese, organizations may need to revisit their policies.
